Home Remedies for Meniere's Disease

Meniere's disease can be a life long issue for individuals suffering from the symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, and tinnitus.   • Adding some sesame seeds to your daily meal is a widely used home remedy to combat the symptoms of this disease.
  • Mixing a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and having a couple of glasses of the mixture every day can help overcome the symptoms of the ear syndrome.
  • Another among the natural home remedy for tinnitus is to have properly boiled stems and leaves of Mistletoe, not exceeding 5 grams per cup.
  • Magnesium supplements are also found to be an effective remedy to reduce the impacts of vertigo. Therefore, one who suffers from Meniere’s disease can include vegetables and fruits that are rich in magnesium to his or her regular diet.
  • Taking pomegranate juice daily for approximately 15 days has been found to be effective for this disease.
  • Some individuals with this syndrome also experienced improvements in the symptoms after having one teaspoonful of glycerin twice a day regularly for at least one month.

Self care as essential home remedies

In addition to considering the internally and externally used preparation that can help is reducing the symptoms, one needs to also avoid worsening the impacts of the disease. Therefore, experts also suggest some effective self-care tactics for people suffering from Meniere’s disease.

  • First, you should change your eating habits. Instead of having three full meals, have smaller meals, may be five to six times in the entire day, depending on your nutritional requirements.
  • Having more salt or sodium in your diet may cause fluid retention. Therefore, you should consider limiting your salt intake in your meals. Avoid packaged food, especially those containing monosodium glutamate.  
  • Completely avoid caffeine-based drinks and foods, since caffeine has shown proven results in worsening the symptoms of tinnitus.
  • Nicotine is another dangerous element that may provoke the symptoms and therefore you should avoid smoking completely.

Tips to consider

In addition to all the natural home remedies including the self-care tactics, you also need to take necessary precautions and ensure performing some best practices. Following are a few essential tips to follow:

  • In times when you get an attack of dizziness, lie down immediately.
  • Take sufficient rest before and after the dizziness attacks.
  • Take precautions, such as holding a cane, to avoid injuries when you have to walk after waking up in the night.

In general, there are no absolute treatment method to eliminate Meniere’s disease completely. But these home remedies in combination with the precautionary measures can make your life easier in dealing with the symptoms. The impacts of Meniere’s disease may be life long, but the home remedies still continue to be the most reliable and effective for reducing its symptoms.
