Knowing the Treatment for Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a condition of the ear characterized by a continuous ringing, clanging, buzzing or even whirring sounds heard unusually. This is a condition felt by millions of Americans. Tinnitus is more of a symptom of an underlying condition thus there is no known cure for tinnitus as of this moment. Tinnitus medication lies more on the treatment of the underlying condition. Once the deeper ailment is cured then the tinnitus symptom being felt will also be alleviated.

This holds true for simple ailments of the ear such as infection in the inner or middle ear, an exposure to very loud sounds, congestion in the sinus or an excessive build-up of wax. Once these conditions are taken care of, then the tinnitus will also be treated.

However, for people who are suffering from the condition of chronic tinnitus which is accompanied by an unending noise in the head or ears, there is no actual cure for this type of tinnitus. It is because the damage area is in the inner ear specifically the auditory nerve that is responsible for sending out signals to the brain. Auditory never is permanent if it is accidentally damage you will really experience the underlying condition in the ear called tinnitus.

Although there is no actual permanent tinnitus medication for this type of condition there are some ways by which tinnitus can be managed in order for the sufferers to have fairly normal lives.

For some tinnitus sufferers there are some techniques which seemed to have worked. For those who are suffering with hearing loss with accompanying tinnitus, a device can be fitted to them. This device will work by amplifying the external sounds so as to minimize the noise that they hear in their head or ears. The device’s goal is to “mask” the problem.

There are other suggestions which can be done to “mask” the tinnitus symptom. It may be through the use of music generating units such as CD or tape players. Counselling, hypnosis, acupuncture and even electrical stimulation may also be helpful for tinnitus medication.

It is unfortunate that the actual cure for tinnitus has not been discovered yet but research and clinical trials are ongoing to finally find that permanent cure for the ringing in the ears symptoms. The management methods being done today are certainly not easy to do but hopefully in the near future a treatment will be discovered to help cure tinnitus completely.

I have tinnitus, not too bad thankfully. I aquired it through my job of working at airports, all the jets taking off. Left me with a slight whooshing sound, so not too bad. A good article.

Interesting...

I have helped thousands of people with tinnitus in one facet or another and I am amazed at how little is actually known about it and what causes it. Tinnitus can be difficult to diagnose and treat so I wouldn't get your hopes up as there likely won't be a "catch-all" miracle cure that will treat us all as everyone is different.
