Ways to Relieve Meniere's Disease at Home

Meniere's Disease is an infection of the inner ear caused by fluid building up in the labyrinth.It causes dizziness (vertigo) and tinnitus (ringing in the ear) and affects balance.There are natural remedies you can purchase at health shops which will alleviate the symptoms and sufferers can help themselves by changing their lifestyle and diet.

Meniere's Disease is an infection of the inner ear that affects hearing and balance.It is usually just in one ear and starts with one symptom and gets progressively worse.Side affects are dizziness,tinnitus and hearing loss.It is caused by fluid building up inside the labyrinth which is part of the inner ear and is most often found in people aged 40-60.

There are home remedies that will help alleviate the symptoms which you can purchase from health shops and the two main ones are

  • A Magnesium Supplement
  • Gingkbo Biloha extract and Zinc

Magnesium is a mineral that helps relax tight muscles and tension in the body and will reduce the symptoms of vertigo which is the name for the dizziness caused by Meniere's Disease.The Gingkbo Biloha extract and Zinc is a good natural remedy for Meniere's Disease.It comes from the leaves of the Ginkgo Biloba tree which is the world's longest living tree species having been growing in China for over two million years.The leaves contain antioxident active compounds which provides the extract.

There are also several self-help things you can do to reduce the effects of the disease.

1.Sit or lie down as soon as you begin to feel dizzy and rest,do not rush back to doing normal things after an attack,give yourself time to get over it.When you are having an attack avoid things that can make things worse such as bright lights,watching television and trying to read.

4.Change your diet to reduce the affects of the diseas as your goal is to reduce the fluid in your inner ear.Eat regularly and have the same amount of food at each meal which will regulate your body fluids.Change your daily routine from three meals a day to five or six smaller meals.

5.Limit your intake of salt.Salt increases fluid retention so you should not take more than 1500mg of salt per day.

6.Avoid caffeine. Cut out chocolate,coffee,tea and other stimulant drinks as caffeine makes the condition worse.

7.Avoid nicotine.Cut out smoking as nicotine increases the severity of the symptoms of Meniere's Disease and makes the condition worse.
